My ex girlfriend of 7 years and I broke up 3 years ago, she moved out of the country and we decided it be best to live our lives since we were going in different directions. Since then she’s has been in two relationships and I have been in one. We kept in contact here and there just to see how each other was doing. It had been almost a year since I had heard from her then out of the blue she messages me, asking how I have been. We are both single, both moved on from our relationships and having small talk through texts every once in awhile but nothing serious, strictly friendly. A couple days ago we were both in Our home town together for the holidays (we were high school sweat hearts) and decided to meet up for dinner. We met up at 9 o clock and stayed up talking and catching up until 7 in the morning. She didn’t want to leave, and our chemistry was the same if not stronger. She has plans to go out with her friends that night but ditch them because she wanted to spend time with me. The entire time I let her do most the talking and I did not bring up our break up, anything bad about our past or my most recent relationship. she talked about her experiences, her trips to other countries, and other topics. I have unconditional love for this girl, all those feelings never left but came back again that night. Now my question is how to do I go about getting her back? How do I text her? What do I say and not say? I don’t want to come off as needy but I do want her to know that I want us back together. What should my next step be?

I say start over fresh. Just like you two had just meet. Don’t jump into it. Go out let your bond grow naturally again and see where this ride takes you. She my feel the same as you do now but you both should just start out fresh.
