No Contact When That Initially Caused Problems

My ex and I always had problems mainly, but no solely, because of a specific insecurity I had which I finally got rid of. I was actually the one who broke up after putting distance between us for two weeks with minimal contact while my ex littered my inbox with positive messages. I was under a lot of stress from school work and wasn’t in the right mindset. My ex told me that because I put so much distance between us he planned on breaking up with me. I think there is still a chance because of a lot of things my ex said - including, “Let’s take it slow” before taking it back - but I need to prove my sincerity to him. We had minor fights that we called “break-ups” but really weren’t since the love was still there, but this situation is on another level. My ex is a massive attention whore and I’m concerned that no contact will just be making the situation worse. Though I understand he needs time to recover and forget our negative experiences and see how I improve and demonstrate my sincerity.
