Does anyone here have any experience dating someone with mental health issues? Specifically Borderline Personality Disorder and low self esteem?
This whole situation with her put me through an extreme emotional roller coaster of the best and also worst feelings I’ve ever felt and has ultimately crushed me in the end…yet I still can’t stop thinking about her ever day and it’s been over half a year since we’ve talked.
How long did you date her? Are you the one who broke up with her? I’m sure you care about her, but you have to ask yourself if it was a mostly positive experience or if there were too many negatives that would make the continuance unhealthy and unwise for your own mental stability. Sometimes a man thinks he can “fix” a woman’s problems with mental illness - like the knight in shining armor riding to the rescue. Mental health issues are best dealt with by a medical professional such as a psychiatrist and might include medication. It most often takes years to improve or resolve the problems.
I haven’t had an experience dating someone with that particular disorder, but if anyone dates a person with mental issues and then reaches a point where the “relationship” is destructive to their own well being, it’s always in your best to disassociate from that person.
I’m sorry you’ve been obsessing about her for over 6 months, but maybe a therapy session would help you to understand why and how to stop the obsession.
Every “relationship” has ups and downs, but if it starts disrupting your own happiness and satisfaction, it becomes a toxic situation…
