It sounds to me like he was just being cautious, trying to see how things between you two will develop after 3 months, he probably was a bit nervous too, but if he didn´t tried to engage in a conversation with you, then I would say he just wants to remain in good terms without taking it too far.

I think moving on is a good decision 🙂
